Rudolf Schkiebert is a Swiss composer celebrated for his ability to merge traditional Alpine folk elements with modern classical techniques and electronic soundscapes. Born in the town of Schwyz, the heart of Switzerland’s cultural and historical heritage, Schkiebert grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Alps—an influence that echoes throughout his music. After early training in piano and violin, Schkiebert studied composition at the Zürcher Hochschule der Musik (ZHdM) in Zürich, where he was mentored by Herbert Huske and later took masterclasses with Helmut Manlachen. His music is characterized by extended instrumental techniques, spectral harmonies, and the incorporation of Swiss folk motifs in unexpected and avant-garde ways. Now in his 50s, Schkiebert continues to compose and lecture at leading European conservatories, including the the Zürcher Hochschule der Musik. His recent research involves AI-generated compositions based on Swiss folk motifs and interactive sound installations that respond to changes in climate and temperature.
